In episode five, Goro confront Hiro and sees his weakened and feverish state, and later, the blue mass growing on his chest. Ichigo lashes out at 002, and in her physical assault, seems to awaken the less human side of 002, as she appears not as a whimsical, sly, or sexual devil, but as an angry one for the first time.. The last scene from episode 23 is their wedding: Zero Two is wearing a bridal dress (her final form as Strelizia), carries a bouquet (the klaxobomb) and embarks together with Hiro into a new, unknown life leaving their previous lives behind.

The mecha anime Darling in the FRANXX had a controversial ending that ultimately left viewers with more questions than answers. Here it is, explained.. 02 treated Hiro better than her other stamens was because he showed more of a humanly behavior. 02 didn’t like the way humans were living, enclosed, emotionless and oblivious of whats outside the plantation. But Hiro was different, he showed emotion, he cried for 02 cuz he didn’t want her to die while piloting the Franxx alone in episode 1, he acted more like a normal human being so 02 liked.
